Milton vs. Woodstock: Homecoming

October 29, 2021

Roswell, GA- In the sellout stands of Ray Manus Stadium the favored Milton Eagles defeated the Roswell Hornets by a score of 44-34. The final score does not represent the full game well; Milton dominated the Hornets, however, late in the fourth quarter the Roswell offense sparked, scoring two touchdowns, and recovering an onside kick. Milton has won three in a row against Roswell. In addition, Milton now controls their own destiny within the region being one game closer to a region championship and a #1 seed in the state playoffs. Milton moves onto 3-0 in the region and Roswell drops to 2-1.

After multiple weeks on the road, Milton will welcome in the Woodstock Wolverines this Friday night. Woodstock is still looking for their first win and would want nothing more than to knock off Milton in front of their fans at home.

Woodstock Impact Players

QB Dan Comeau (Jr.)- 124 completions, 1363 passing yards, 6 touchdowns, 51.8 QBR

WR Brady Williams (Sr.)- 43 receptions, 604 yards, 2 touchdowns

LB Preston Lawrence (Sr.)- 55 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble

Last week Woodstock lost to Etowah on the road 17-14. Woodstock has already lost to Sequoyah, River Ridge, Creekview, Campbell, Calhoun, Cherokee and Alpharetta. Near all the losses have been double-digit losses.

Woodstock is currently in year one under head coach Troy Hoff. Hoff was hired this year from Covington Eastside where he made a successful turn around there. It has been a rough outing for Hoff and company thus far, sitting at no wins and most likely will miss out on a trip to the playoffs.

Leading the charge for the Wolverine offense is Junior quarterback Dan Comeau. In the loss to Etowah, Comeau completed 19 passes on 27 attempts for 147 yards one touchdown and two interceptions.

Woodstock has had their fair share of troubles rushing the ball all season. Against Etowah running backs Preston Lawrence and CJ London combined for 51 yards are 13 carries and one touchdown.

Senior receiver Brady Williams led the Wolverines in total receiving with seven catches for 67 yards. Senior receiver Alex Hendricks had two receptions for 13 yards. Junior Adonis Garcia made two catches for 13 yards.

In addition to their offensive struggles, Woodstock has had many defensive struggles over the season. Woodstock has let up around 40 points per game to opponents.

Senior linebacker Preston Lawrence had a phenomenal game against Etowah accounting for 17 total tackles. Senior linebacker Benji Shackleford had 13 tackles one tackle for loss, one sack and one fumble recovery. Senior safety Nick Rule made 12 tackles.

Milton Impact Players

QB Devin Farrell (Sr.)- 99 completions, 1273 passing yards, 21 total touchdowns, 62 carries, 418 yards, 51.8 QBR

RB Jordan McDonald (Sr.)- 83 carries, 658 yards, 10 total touchdowns

DL AJ Crawford (Sr.)- 51 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery

A win over the Roswell Hornets has the Eagles in control of their own destiny. The Eagles are just two wins away from their fourth straight region championship. The Eagles are one of two teams in 7A averaging over 40 points per game (the other being North Cobb).

Leading the high-octane offense is Senior quarterback Devin Farrell. Farrell completed 12 passes for 87 yards for one touchdown and rushed for 74 yards on eight carries.

Senior running back Jordan McDonald made his return after a brief hiatus. McDonald rushed for 134 yards on ten carries and three touchdowns. McDonald also had one three-yard jump pass touchdown. Junior Scott Moskowitz had nine carries for 43 yards. Even Senior Brooks Bortle was involved in the running game having two carries for 37 yards and one touchdown.

In addition to being the lead rusher, Jordan McDonald was also the lead receiver. McDonald caught three passes for 23 yards and one touchdown. Sophomore Debron Gatling caught two balls for 21 yards. Senior tight end Jack Nickel had three receptions for seven yards and one touchdown. Senior Brooks Bortle had three receptions for 18 yards.

Defensively the Eagles answered the call. Putting pressure on Roper, forcing turnovers and stopping the big play were all things Milton had to do to secure a win. This week this unit has a great opportunity to show how elite they are against a less than mediocre Woodstock offense.

Senior cornerback Cam Canion had a career-high game making nine total tackles and one pass deflection. Junior safety Bryce Thornton recorded seven tackles. Junior safety Robert Billings made five tackles one interception and one huge hit. Junior cornerback Brayden Holmes made two tackles and one interception.

Junior linebacker Caleb Moran had seven tackles and one interception. Senior linebacker Zyere Horton recorded five tackles, an interception and one fumble recovery. Senior linebacker Owen Pauley had five tackles. Senior linebacker Dylan Miller recorded six tackles.

Senior defensive lineman AJ Crawford wreaked havoc forcing seven tackles, four tackles for loss three sacks and one forced fumble. Junior defensive lineman LT Overton had five tackles, one tackle for loss and one sack. Junior defensive lineman Wyatt Smalley made four tackles, one tackle for loss and one fumble recovery.

Keys to Victory: Woodstock

For Woodstock, this will be the hardest test thus far in the season. Comeau is going to have to be elite in making reads and throws and not force any turnovers. Defensively Woodstock is going to need to blitz to get to Farrell and McDonald early. A non-offensive touchdown is key for the Wolverines in beating Milton.

Keys to Victory: Milton

Milton will need to take Woodstock out of the game early and fast. On paper, Woodstock does not even belong on the same field as Milton. Start McDonald off early and then get Farrell going through the air. Defensively shut Comeau down by sacking him and forcing turnovers.

Score Prediction:

Milton/54

Woodstock/7

Offensive Player of the Game: Brooks Bortle

Defensive Player of the Game: LT Overton
