Carlye’s Concealer Review

Carlye's Concealer Review

Carlye Taylor, Sports Writer

Concealer, in my opinion, is the MVP of makeup products. Concealer brightens the zones of your face, covers blemishes, redness and reduces texture. Personally, I’ve worn concealer almost everyday since 5th grade, so I’ve been through my fair share of products. The makeup market is oversaturated, and it can be tricky to find products worth the money; that’s where I come in!

When reviewing these, I used Clinique moisturizer and the product, no primer or any other products. I blend out my concealer using a small damp beauty sponge but some people use concealer brushes or even their hands. I prefer the damp beauty sponge because if used with a light touch I am able to blend it in without spreading it far and wide across my face.

Concealer is like foundation but with a thicker consistency and holds up better without smudging by the end of the day. A little goes a long way with concealer and the amount of product that comes with your purchase generally lasts a while.

ALSO! I have very dry skin, so my review will be much different than someone with normal/oily combination skin.

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer: This is the one of the most popular concealers in the game right now; best for normal skin with a mix of dry and oily combination

PROS

  • Features a vegan formula infused with tape technology that holds the concealer in place
  • Lifts and smooths skin
  • Long lasting
  • Comes in 30 shades
  • Blends well with damp sponge, rather than a concealer brush
  • Most waterproof concealer I’ve used
  • Best coverage concealer I’ve used

CONS

  • Prone to a “cakey” look, meaning that the product can build up and form a noticeably thick texture on the face —> I have experienced this with this concealer a few times, but for the amount of times that I’ve used this product, that’s nothing.
  •  Must be blended quickly because it can dry before you move it to the areas you want to conceal
  • Flakes around dry areas
  • Moisturizer should be used before applying to avoid stickiness
  • Settles under eyes after around 2 hours
  • Creases throughout day
