Every Thanksgiving break, college basketball teams travel to tournaments all across the country. From the Bahamas to Hawaii, these tournaments give these teams quality competition from conferences that they usually never play against. It also provides these teams with what could be good learning experiences for later on in the regular season, especially in their conference tournaments games and in March Madness. 

 

For Georgia’s teams, the Georgia Bulldogs led by future early first round pick Anthony Edwards and second year head coach Tom Crean will head to Hawaii for the Maui Jim Invitational Tournament. They will play the Dayton Flyers in the first round and will hope to move on past the Flyers to continue their undefeated record. 

 

The Maui Jim Invitational is an annual early season college basketball tournament that takes place Thanksgiving week in Lahaina, Hawaii at the Lahaina Civic Center. It is hosted by Chaminade University of Honolulu, an NCAA Division two school.

Celebrating its tenth year of elite collegiate tournament play, the 2019 Battle for Atlantis will include eight teams all around the country which is known as one of the most challenging early season tournaments. Last year’s tournament was won by the defending champions Virginia Cavaliers.

The Myrtle Beach Invitational is an early season Division one college basketball tournament played each November at the HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina. The tournament, entering its second year in 2019, features a bracket format with 12 games over three days. The event was won last year by the Central Florida Golden Knights.

The ESPN Orlando Invitational is an early season tournament played each November at ESPN Wide World of Sports near Orlando, Fla. The tournament is entering its 14th year with each team playing one game per day regardless of the results. The Villanova Wildcats defeated the Florida State Seminoles in last year’s championship game.

National collegiate basketball powers Duke,Georgetown,Texas and California headline the 25th annual 2K Empire Classic benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project. The Wounded Warrior project is a charity and veterans service organization that offers a variety of programs, services and events for Wounded Veterans. The 2K classic will once again be played in Madison Square Garden.

The NIT season tip off will return to the Barclays Center for a fifth straight season this Thanksgiving week, with games on the 27th and 29th featuring an elite group of teams from America’s top conferences. Four different teams representing the Big 10, SEC, BIG 12 and ACC will compete.

The Hall of Fame Classic is the culminating event of college basketball’s Hall of Fame weekend, which also includes the 14th annual induction ceremony for the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. That event will take place on Sunday, Nov. 24th at the College Basketball Experience in Kansas City.
